AP Spanish Scoring Activity Instructions
- Each students need 2-3 essays to score. It will be most efficient if all of their essays are about the same prompt (pick the same rubric color).
- Students need a pen and a variety of colored pencils. Students seated near each other can share and trade off different colors.
- Students copy the name of the student written on their essay paper onto the top of the rubric. (Just in case they are separated if they choose to unstaple then restaple.)
- Students turn to the back side of the rubric, and beneath the "Overall Score" box write: "CB: Their Name".
- Go through slides below with students.
- Students use chromebooks for next step.
- Students familiarize themselves with the prompt and the sources. The essays stapled to green rubrics are the Spanish 3 Essay Prompt, and the essays stapled to the buff rubrics are the Heritage Spanish Essay Prompt. (Click on the links to read the prompts and review the sources.)
- Students read an essay.
- Students score the essay for each of the criteria. STUDENTS HIGHLIGHT A SENTENCE THAT SERVES AS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHY THE AUTHOR GOT THAT SCORE FOR THAT CRITERIA. In the score box for that criteria, students write the name of the color, shape, symbol, or letter they used to label that example sentence. Do not write a score in that criteria until you can locate an example from their paper that proves why.
- At the end, students assign a final overall score to the essay 0-5. Remember that it is not necessarily an average of all the criteria because some criterias weigh more than others. Students write comments explaining why they gave it that number score.
- Students repeat with essays 2 (and 3).
- Restaple the essays if needed, and put in the "done" pile.
- This activity may take two class periods to complete.
